About Navjeevan

Established in 1994, Navjeevan Centre works towards the welfare of Commercially Sexually Exploited Women (CSEW) and their children. Their aim is to provide women with more opportunities and work towards integrating them into society as a family. The Centre was motivated by the desire of the mothers to move their children away from exploitative environments and allow them a better standing in life.

The women who work on our crafts are in the age group of 18-23, most of them orphans, and pursuing courses like Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Arts, Diploma in Education.

Apart from studying, the Centre believes that learning a new skill is essential, because it instills qualities like discipline, accountability, time management in them, and gives them the opportunity to explore other career options, one that could be more aligned to their interests.

The income generated with the help of this work will help them once they move out of the Centre and get a head start as independent individuals.

The women of Chikhali

About Chikhali

Chikhali is a village situated about 20.5 km away from Pune, primarily occupied by families from low-income groups. Most women from these families have completed middle school but were unable to study past their 10th for lack of resources or because their family felt higher education wasn’t necessary for them. Some of them have had experience working, which they had to leave when they got married or had children.

Cut Sew Curry is working with some of the women from this village, within the age group of 20-35, to provide them with an alternate means of livelihood and an additional source of income for their families.

As primary caregivers to their young children, these women are unable to take up full-time jobs and prefer work that they can do from their homes. Learning a new skill and having additional income gives them some autonomy, the ability to contribute to their household expenses, and give their children continued education and a better future.
